Douglas Elmslie Funeral details

Jim Elmslie, Dougie’s brother advises us of the funeral details.

Friday 23rd January,  9.00am at Daldowie Crematorium.

Jim feels it would be appropriate that ex-members who are able to attend wear their ex-members ties, as Douglas so often did with such great pride.
There is no one who was a greater ambassador for all that the 214 stands for than Douglas..

Unfortunately I will be unable to attend.

Sure and Stedfast

John Baxter ex pro footballer

I have received an email re John Baxter (ex Benburb, Hibs, Falkirk, Clydebank and Scotland player), who passed away in December 2014.

The gentleman was looking for details of his funeral, unfortunately I didn’t have any details regarding him in our membership.

He wrote ” I see from the Scotsman that John Baxter has died.  I remember playing against him in the youth churches league when I played  for Cowlairs Parish against a very good team from Gordon Parish. I do not know if he was a member of the BB  or present church but I was wondering if you knew any details of his funeral. I also followed him in his football career as I was a Hibernian supporter and he played for Hibs after  being with Benburb.

Does anyone remember John as being a 214 boy?

(I believe he was 78 when he passed away last month.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Baxter_(footballer)

( Turns out John Baxter was never in the 214 but another company though he did play for Gordon Park Youth team in the churches league. Was also a member of Cowlairs Golf club. – The gent who enquired did manage to get to the funeral where a BB hymn was played.)
