Iain Glass

I am heartbroken to advise you of the sudden death of my brother Iain.

Iain (74) passed away suddenly but peacefully at home with his family beside him on Friday 25th October 2024.

Iain at the 214 Centenary Civic Reception Fri 4th October 2024 at Glasgow City Chambers

This is a devastating loss to Helen and Stewart, as well as Stewart’s partner Cheryl and their children Orla and Islay who have lost a beloved granda.

As I write this Christine and I find it hard to believe that he has gone. Iain was my brother and my best friend, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Don Glass (Chairman)

Iain’s funeral will be held at Clydebank Crematorium (Dalnottar) on

Tuesday 12th November 2024 at 2.30pm

I’m sure all the Ex Members will be shocked to hear this and send their deepest sympathies to the whole family at this sad time.

Iain was a very good friend to many over the years and was a gentle giant. He will be missed throughout the Bowling and Pipeband / Music worlds to name a few.

Photo / Video appeal

Just a quick request if you have video or photographs of Friday nights successful evening, can you please send them to me on secretary’s email address?

I have photos via WhatsApp and Facebook but the quality reduces on these platforms.

I have one photo of the stair group photo but it’s not the clearest.

There was another camera used if that could be sent I’d be greatly appreciative.

I’ll post up all the photos together once I get them.

Many thanks

Alan

No e ticket or print off of your invitation is required.

Please wear a shirt and tie. (BB tie if you have one.)

No payment is required – though I’m sure our goodly Treasurer Stephen will happily accept any donations towards our Centenary Fund.

Drinks on arrival.

Thanks to everyone who has replied and looks as if it will be a healthy attendance.

Our thoughts are with those who unfortunately aren’t able to attend.

Here’s to another great 214 evening of memories and friendship.

Joe Noble

Joe’s wife Lynn advises me that Joe’s funeral arrangements are as follows:

All welcome. No flowers please.

I’m sure there will be many a 214BB tie on display along with others from the Pipe Band Community.

Joe Noble

Joe at our informal event in March this year.

I am sorry to inform you that Joe Noble passed away on Saturday 31st August 2024 after a short illness at the age of 82.

Joe another 214 legend was so looking forward to our Centenary Civic Reception next month , I’m sure he’ll be there in spirit.

Robert Wallace another ‘214 boy’ has left a detailed history of Joe’s achievements on the Piping Press website. (Click here to read)

I will advise of funeral arrangements once known.

We send our deepest condolences to Lynn and all of the family at this sad time.

Hugh (Ally) McAllister Osborne

Sorry to advise that one of the 214 stalwarts…. Allister Osborne passed away on Tuesday 18th June 2024 at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow.

Ally at the 2019 Reunion

Ally (84) had been housebound over the last few years.

I had contact with him doing various jobs for him and he was always asking how the 214 boys were doing.

He served as Captain in the Company from 1965-1967.

Ally was always involved with the 214 as a young boy, Officer, (Band Officer), Captain and was a long serving Ex Member on the Association’s Committee.

He also was an Officer along with Willie Inglis with the Company Lifeboys.

Ally in his work life was a Head Teacher of Ruchill Primary School.

Youth Hosteling was also a big part of his life and he served as Glasgow Secretary of the Scottish Youth Hosteling Association.

Ardgarten 1963
Brack – Jan 1965

I’m sure we all remember Ally’s father Hugh who always played the piano at the Annual Inspections, with his Labrador by his side.

Ally was Rev Harry L. Thomson’s nephew. (His Mother was Harry’s sister in law)

The funeral will be held on Tuesday 2nd July – 1.30pm at Craigton Crematorium, Berryknowes Road, Cardonald, Glasgow.

As always I’m sure there will be many a 214BB tie on show for one of the Company’s loyal servants.
